The City of Boston and The Community Builders Announce the Start of Construction at 127 Amory Street
The new mixed-income, transit-oriented development will create 96 new homes in Jackson Square
The Mayor’s Office of Housing, in partnership with the Boston Housing Authority (BHA) and The Community Builders, today announced the start of construction at 127 Amory Street, a six-story, 96-unit affordable, transit-oriented development in Jamaica Plain. This project is a key part of the ongoing Jackson Square redevelopment, a collaborative effort between the Mayor's Office of Housing, BHA, the City of Boston’s Planning Department, The Community Builders, Urban Edge, and the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation.
“This project demonstrates our commitment to redeveloping Jackson Square and expanding affordable housing opportunities across Boston,” said Chief of Housing Sheila Dillon. “Through strong partnerships, the City is ensuring that families and individuals of all income levels in Jackson Square have access to safe, stable, and high-quality homes.”
The Boston Housing Authority provided the land for the new development. The building will include 12 three-bedroom units, 51 two-bedroom units, and 33 one-bedroom units. Affordability levels are designed to ensure broad access for Boston residents, with homes available to households earning up to 80 percent of the Area Median Income. Ten units will be reserved for formerly homeless individuals or families.

The Jackson Square redevelopment is also preserving 199 public housing units as affordable housing, repurposing BHA administrative offices into 12 new affordable units, and building approximately 133 additional affordable units along with 214 market-rate apartments in nearby buildings, including 127 Amory Street. The plan is designed to foster community connection and resident well-being. The Amory Street development will feature 3,800 square feet of shared indoor space, and the new Jackson Square Greenway will provide a gathering and play area for residents throughout the neighborhood.

The project is made possible through public and private investments, including support from the Mayor’s Office of Housing, the Community Preservation Act Fund, the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities, and federal and state tax credits. Financing was also provided by Eastern Bank.
127 Amory Street reflects Mayor Wu’s commitment to making Boston a home for everyone. The Mayor has directed new financial resources into mixed-income developments, commissioned a public land audit to maximize City-owned property, and streamlined approval processes to reduce permitting times by more than 25 percent. Changes to zoning and development policies, including Linkage and Inclusionary Zoning, are helping private developers build more affordable homes. Projects like 127 Amory Street are delivering new housing opportunities for Boston residents in every neighborhood.
